API TEST - Leveraging Agile, Design Thinking and Lean Startup to Rapidly Launch an Electric Supercar
Description
The time required to design and launch a new car using the typical approach is 5 – 6 years and several million to several billion dollars. Leveraging Agile, Design Thinking and Lean Startup has resulted in a proof of concept car in only 1 year with a cost of only $100,000. Additionally, the approach was flexible enough to adapt to major market changes that occurred during this time. This approach allowed for rapid direct market feedback from real customers with a real physical product with minimal investment, avoiding potential expensive market mistakes. This presentation covers the use of an agile approach in the design and fabrication of a electric powered, high performance supercar. The PDCA cycle was used repeatedly to conduct a continuous series of learning experiments. The result was to find multiple ways to fail and learn on the journey to success. The car will be ready for production in late 2021. Audience interest is held due to the fact that an agile approach was successfully utilized in a non-traditional, non-software environment. A 1/8 scale models and pictures of the full-size prototype car in various stages of completion will be shown. The business model includes hiring and training at risk youth, providing a more positive path for their future.
