Agile and management—a topic where many people have diverse experiences, views, and opinions, and an area rife with myths. I have accumulated management experience for almost 30 years, navigating and driving agile transformations—with and without frameworks. The world is full of advice for people like me. In the tension field of what is seen and publicly promoted as ideal and the daily needs of customers, businesses, organizations, and employees, doing the right thing is often a complex challenge (and it is very easy to be criticized). To develop a sense of direction, and inspired by Dave Snowden and other complexity thinkers, I am applying— to the best of my abilities—complexity leadership. In this talk, I will share my learnings in this area. I will elaborate on the thinking behind my current management and leadership approach. I will share four principles that emerged from my practice and that I have used with my current, large organization (over 1000 people). And I will exemplify them with recent real-life stories.
